ADI Insurance
1
To request a quote, call us or complete our online form. We’ll need key information about you, your vehicle, and how you teach, so the quote reflects your real working day.
2
After you submit the form, we’ll call you to confirm details and discuss the level of cover you require, so the policy is shaped around your needs, not forced into a one-size-fits-all box.
3
Once your details are confirmed, we compare the available options and talk you through the key terms and conditions, so you know exactly what is (and isn’t) included.
ADI Insurance: What You Need To Know
As an ADI, you’re fully qualified and registered, and you can legally charge for driving instruction and work independently. Once qualified, your registration lasts for 4 years and you’re required to take and pass standards checks when DVSA requests them.
Why ADIs need specialist “tuition” cover (not just standard car insurance)
Standard car insurance is typically designed for social, domestic and commuting use, even where “business use” exists, it may not cover paid driving tuition. If a vehicle is being used in a way the policy does not cover, you can be left exposed in a claim scenario. Driving without valid insurance is illegal, and GOV.UK sets out the potential penalties (including a £300 fixed penalty and 6 points, with the possibility of an unlimited fine and disqualification if taken to court).
What to prioritise in an ADI insurance quote
Not every driving school policy is identical. Many specialist policies in the market talk about areas like “negligent tuition cover”, “replacement dual-control vehicles”, and other instructor-specific protections, these are commonly highlighted by specialist providers. With us, your quote can be tailored using options such as dual-control courtesy vehicle cover, legal expenses, public liability, and the ability to review named driver vs any driver structures depending on how your business runs.
What impacts the price of ADI insurance
Insurers assess risk over the policy term and commonly look at factors like your annual mileage and how the vehicle is used, your claims history, and the type of vehicle (including repair complexity and cost). Accuracy matters: setting mileage too low can create issues if you need to claim, and setting it too high can inflate premium unnecessarily.
Why Choose BG Insurance for ADI Insurance
We operate a panel of insurers rather than relying on a single provider, which means we can compare options and help you land on a suitable product at the right price, without you having to ring multiple specialist markets yourself.
If you’re growing from a one-car ADI setup into a multi-vehicle or multi-instructor business, the “policy structure” decision (named vs any driver, and when fleet becomes appropriate) can impact both pricing and operational flexibility and we can help you compare these routes.
We also understand that “staying on the road” is the business: optional add-ons like breakdown, replacement vehicle solutions, legal expenses, public liability, and business interruption are often where instructors feel the difference between “I have insurance” and “my business survives disruption”.
FAQs

The template position is: comprehensive cover for leisure use only (commuting not included) for any driver over 25 who is claim and conviction-free and has your permission, subject to the insurer’s terms and full policy wording.
Breakdown cover is highlighted as an optional add-on, and specialist breakdown protection is often positioned as important for dual-control vehicles where downtime hits income.
A named driver policy lists the specific people covered to teach in the car, an any driver instructor policy is designed for more flexibility (with the trade-off that premiums are often higher).
Business interruption cover is described as an optional add-on that can pay a set daily/weekly benefit while you’re unable to work due to a covered incident, replacement vehicle solutions are also frequently discussed as an income-protection tool for instructors.
Insurers commonly assess your annual mileage (including teaching mileage and travel between pupils/test centres), claims history, and vehicle type/repair costs, so having accurate information ready helps avoid mispricing or issues later.
